The Big Umbrella (TBU) was founded over 10 years ago by Justin Dickinson with a clear desire to help address food insecurity and the food waste he witnessed growing in Melbourne and surrounds. Today TBU has rescued over 440 tonnes of food to make over 260,000 freshly prepared nutritious meals to offer to marginalised and often ignored people in the community with support from over 35,000 volunteers.
With its strong core values based around community and people, Luus Industries were keen to be involved, and formed a close relationship with the charity in 2019. Since this time, Luus have donated equipment, have volunteered at various events, and more recently have provided the impressive Zanussi Magistar 20 Tray Combi Oven to TBU’s dedicated site in Brunswick. The combi has enabled the charity to provide high quality delicious meals to their patrons, including veggie bakes, roasts, fresh baked breads, curries, casseroles and pies. “The quality of the meals prepared have gone to the next level and the friends that line up for the warm meal have certainly commented”- Justin Dickinson, The Big Umbrella founder.
Luus Industries continues to support The Big Umbrella in their future ventures, and can’t wait to see what’s next for their relationship with this fantastic charitable organisation.
